NOW I UNDERSTAND
NOW I UNDERSTAND
In the late night cradle of my arms a young girl waits to rock asleep
But she hasn’t had the chance yet to arrive
I wait here each moment for the news about the child she’ll conceive,
About my baby’s little world she’ll bring alive
And all the time that I spend waiting for her smile and every concept I contrive
Won’t go unnoticed in the end
And all the love that’s been building up in me will finally be free
To share with my new friend
And now I understand…
Time seems to slow and I could swear there’s a tickle in my soul
Anticipating her first cry
Love seems to grow when it’s a gift and the warmth of all heavens
Will come and fill my eyes
And all my brothers and sisters gather ‘round and praise the holy ground
Where my wife gave them a niece
And my father holds my hand and says my son she looks a lot like you at one
And a smile fills his cheeks
And now I understand…
And all my brothers and sisters gather ‘round and praise the holy ground
Where my wife gave me a son
And my father holds my hand and says again “I’m proud of you my friend”
His life has just begun
And now I understand…
And they grow and they smile
And all the world around them makes their eyes sparkle wide
All is new, all is well
A reflection of our lives as far as anyone could tell
And now I understand…
On a warm fall evening I met a girl soon to be my wife
And I left it in God’s hands
I swore to protect her, but I didn’t have the means at my command
But it’s all part of the plan
And now I understand…

About “Now I Understand”
My wife and I wanted kids years before my kids were born. I wrote this song somewhere in the 80‘s, actually. When I finally had a boy and girl, the song became all that more important to me.
